The Event View

The Event View is a window that shows the events that have occured to one or more animals. To get to the Event View, select one or more animals in the Herd Explorer and then select Object->Animal->Events from the main menu. You can also get to this view from the List View. Select the animals you want to get event information on and then select Animal->Events from the main menu.

The view contains a table of events. (See Event Types for an explanation of the standard event types.) You can sort on any of the columns by clicking on the column name. By default, the events are sorted by date with the latest events showing first. Each row in the table shows the barn name or number, date, event type, notes, and any additional information that was entered for that event.

Adding, Removing, and Changing Events

The toolbar along the bottom of the event window has buttons for adding, removing, and editing events. To add an event, click on the Add button to get the Add Event dialog. To remove an event, select one or more events in the table and click on the Remove button. To edit an existing event, select an event in the table and click on the Edit button to get the Edit Event dialog.

Setting the Event Date Range

The toolbar also shows the range of dates for which the events are shown. By default, the events for the last two years are shown. You can change this range by changing these dates. See Entering Dates for information on how to enter dates.

Filtering Events

By default, all events are shown. You can show only certain events by clicking on the Filter button in the toolbar. This will pop up a small window that lists all of the event types. Check the events you want to show, and uncheck the events you do not want to show. To dismiss the filter window, just click anywhere outside of the window. (Note: If the Filter button doesn't show, it may be clipped by the window's right edge. Just resize the window to make it wider.)

Printing the Event List

You can print the event view by clicking on the Print button in the toolbar. This will cause a "Print Preview" window to be shown, giving you an idea of what the printed output will look like. Note that there will be an extra blank column in which you can write notes on the printed output. You can send this to the printer by clicking on Send To Printer. You can also save the event list as an HTML document by pressing Save as HTML. HTML documents can be published on the Web or imported into other applications, such as Microsoft Word.
